New York : Tidbits

I have been asked a lot of questions about our trip to NY. I am going to try and answer them here!

Where did we stay?

We stayed at an apartment we subleted {no, not a word} from an adorable LDS couple that just moved to NYC last fall.

There is a Google group where LDS people go to sublet or to sublet an apartment while in NY. The couple's apartment that we stayed at were going on vacation to Hawaii almost the exact same dates while we would be in NY. They give us a cheap deal and they make money to pay for their vacation. It is a win-win situation.

 We ended up paying $25 dollars a night per person {so $75 total}. The cheapest hotel we found, that was safe, was going to be over $150 dollars a night.

How did you get from place to play?

We chose to ride the Subway. We were in NY for seven days and purchased a week-long, unlimited ride Metro card for $29.00. We probably hopped on the Subway four to eight times a day. Getting an unlimited pass was the perfect way to go.

If you are not going to be there for a week, you can ask one of the Metro employees in the office area of any Subway entrance what they would suggest.

How much did it cost to do all of those things?

We got a CityPASS. Across the country you can get City Passes in almost every major city. A city pass gives you admissions to almost all of the must-see attractions in the city you are traveling to.

The NYC CityPASS cost us a mere 89 dollah and got us into the following attractions:

The Empire State Building {included a free audio tour}

The Museum of Modern Art

The American Museum of Natural History {included "Journey to the Stars" film}

The Guggenheim

The Metropolitan Museum of Art OR Top of the Rock

The Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island OR Ferry ride around Hudson & East Rivers

The last two, you had to decide between the options. We roughly saved 60% of what we would have paid had we done all six things and paid just when we got there.

Our fireworks cruise was not part of the CityPASS. We found it at Statue Cruises

If you have any other questions regarding our NYC vacay, please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them ASAP!!

Annnnd, believe it or not! That is finally the wrap up of the trip! Now you know why it took so long to blog about it!

Peace out! :)

I like the subletting idea. That's a much cheaper way to stay.

That is such a great idea on making things cheaper. IF I ever get me there, I will know how to get things cheaper! Thanks.

you could really get a part time job working as a travel adviser for those of us who know nothing about these tricks and tips for traveling!
